Dr. Felix G. Ayson finished his B. Sc. Marine Biology from the University of San Carlos, Cebu City in 1981, M. Sc. Marine Biology from the Marine Science Institute of University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City in 1987 and D. Sc. Zoology from the Ocean Research Institute of the University of Tokyo in 1994. He was a research fellow in 1997-1999 and post-doctoral fellow in 1999-2000 at the Laboratory of Molecular Endocrinology, School of Fisheries Sciences, Kitasato University, Japan. Dr. Ayson worked at SEAFDEC/AQD for 18 years. His research interests are on marine fish hatchery operation, fish physiology, endocrinology, and marine biotechnology. His research focused on unraveling the mystery of the slow growth of rabbitfish (samaral) and developing simple strategies to make them grow faster. His current work is on the impact of climate change on reproduction and early development of economically valuable marine fish species. He was with the FAO from 2007-2010 as Chief Technical Adviser at the Fish Farming Center in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He was Chief of the Aquaculture Department from 2013-2016.
