ISDA stands for Integrated Services for the Development of Aquaculture and Fisheries, registered as a Cooperative Development Authority in 2004 and composed of former and current scientists from the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center, Aquaculture Department (SEAFDEC/AQD) in Tigbauan, Iloilo, with expertise in aquaculture and fisheries. In 2015, ISDA was registered as Integrated Services for the Development of Aquaculture and Fisheries (ISDA) Inc. at the Security and Exchange Commission, Manila, Philippines.

Fisheries remain the only food sector in the world that directly exploits wild resources. More than a century of overfishing and ineffective fisheries management has degraded most fish stocks and aquatic ecosystems to a level at which future returns are not secured – threatening aquatic life and the livelihoods of millions of people who depend on it.

As the fastest growing food industry, today’s aquaculture sector is challenged by the need to scale-up worldwide production in order to meet ever-increasing demand, while facing limited natural resources and multiple production constraints. There is a clear need for more sustainable practices and resource-efficient approaches to aquaculture.

Producers and businesses are confronted with an increasing number of NGO campaigns that critically address the environmental and social impacts of the industry. There is increasing public pressure on the industry to adapt to more sustainable practices.
